On Wednesday 13th February 2019, year 4 & year 5 took part in a Prom Praise workshop, the workshop was held by the professional musician team of Prom Praise. It is a really good way of not only connecting to cross-curricular subjects but most of all it helps to prepare pupils for the concert. When the Orchestra plays ‘Mars’ in the concert, it will help them connect back to the workshop.
The aim of the musician workshop was to listen to ‘Mars’ from ‘The Planets’ by Holst and identify features in terms of pitch, dynamics and texture. Working in groups, pupils create a piece of music that helps tell the story of the Israelites in slavery by using pitch, dynamics and texture (specifically ostinato) and then perform it to the rest of the class.
