Hispanic Day 2015

Fiesta fever certainly hit St Mary’s on Friday. Children made their way along Church Street dressed as flamenco dancers, matadors, Mexican bandits and in the colours of Hispanic-speaking countries to celebrate our annual Hispanic Day. The children were greeted by salsa music being played in the playground which got them in the mood for the wonderful activities planned for them to learn about different aspects of Hispanic culture.

EYFS and KS1 stayed in their classrooms and took part in making sombrero biscuits, maracas and Gaudi mosaics.  Others did flamenco dancing and watched a film about Ferdinand the Bull.  KS2 made their way around the different classrooms to attend their four workshops on volcanoes in Hispanic countries, Mayan Maths, making sombrero biscuits and Gaudi mosaics.

Tortilla española (Spanish omelette) and albóndigas (meatballs) were on the menu for lunch.

The day finished with a special assembly where the whole school got together and told each other what they had done and learnt.  Prizes were also given for the best outfit in each class.

We can’t wait for Hispanic Day next year.

¡Olé!
